About HG

Harmonic Generation is an upbeat vocal group that has been entertaining audiences for over fifteen years with its special blend of contemporary pop and timeless classic songs.

Our a cappella  arrangements span the years and draw inspiration from a wide range of popular genres and artists  to suit any occasion – including Sting, the Beatles, Sara Bareilles, Billie Eilish, Adele, Coldplay, Portugal-The Man, David Archuleta, Walk off the Earth, Rajaton, Imogen Heap, Pentatonix, and many others.

Over the years, we’ve had the opportunity to perform for thousands in a variety of musical settings. Audiences often remark on how striking it is to see a group perform entirely from memory, without a conductor, launching into rich, multi-layered harmonies with just a single starting note.

Collaboration

We love to collaborate! Some of our concerts feature guest artists and ensembles, allowing us to explore music from different musical styles and genres. We have held workshops with internationally renowned groups like Rajaton (Finland), The Real Group (Sweden), as well as the “Godfather of a cappella” Deke Sharon. We’ve also learned from experts in vocal technique, beatboxing, arranging, and sound engineering, and have partnered with local artists on a variety of creative projects.

Rehearsals

Harmonic Generation meets Monday evenings in Nepean, where we work on assembling and polishing multi-part (sometimes quite complex!) vocal arrangements. Our repertoire includes well-known songs from the last few decades, as well as other pieces we simply enjoy performing. Several times a year we hold day-long workshops to sharpen our vocal technique, learn new material, or prepare for an upcoming  performance.

Group membership is by audition.

Teamwork

Through a team-based approach, HG members share the responsibility for setting the direction of the group, planning concerts, selecting music, developing staging and choreography, managing our web presence, developing audio and video recordings, fundraising, and promoting the group through traditional and social media.

Giving Back

Harmonic Generation embraces the opportunity to give back to our community. Since 2008, HG has enabled more than $32,000 in donations from our performances (as of June 2025) that have supported the important work of the many charitable organizations, causes, and initiatives.
